30 Run Clubs In 30 Days

Be ready for any start line—insights for those who train, lead, and show up under pressure.

Hey Team!

It’s the first week of September and you haven’t heard from me all of August. A little unexpected—even for me—but it felt right to step back.

Like many of us, I needed a break. But really, I knew where my energy had to go. And when I commit to something, I want to be present and all-in.

On August 8th, I flew to New York to run with 30 different run clubs in 30 days and film the whole thing. We’re on Day 25/26 now and this will go down as one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Life-changing isn’t a phrase I use lightly, but this has been that.

In a time where so many athletes are chasing the next hardest, fastest, biggest thing, I asked myself: to what end? For me, it wasn’t about being the fastest. It was about getting to the start line, putting myself out there, and committing to something that would demand physical, mental, and emotional endurance. And like most things that scare us, it’s been worth it.

In The Field

30 run clubs in 30 days. That was the mission. We’re now on Day 25/26 and have already run with 36. By the end we’ll finish closer to 50. That’s more than 200 miles, over 2,000 runners, and nearly 750 genuine conversations.

But it’s the stories that have made it unforgettable. A club started after the passing of a parent. A crew that brings hope to a low-income neighborhood. A women’s-only group that empowers women in sport. These are the anchors of the journey… and none of it would’ve happened if I didn’t listen to that pull, if I didn’t just get to the start line.

The truth is, not everyone understood it. Some people flat out questioned why I would do something like this. But I’ve learned that people don’t always see your vision. They haven’t lived your experiences. That doesn’t mean it’s wrong—it just means it’s yours. And if it feels right to you, that’s enough.

This hasn’t been easy. There have been lonely days, and nights where I questioned why I signed up for this. But resilience gets built long before you need it. It comes from showing up, keeping promises to yourself, and leaning into challenges that stretch you. That’s what gives you the strength to keep moving when it gets hard.

Now I’ve got more than just the miles under my belt. I’ve got a new community and memories I’ll carry forever.

And probably one of the most rewarding things of this entire journey: we’ve managed to bridge community across clubs, crews and districts. Tonight, we’re bringing nearly 150 runners across all the crews we’ve run with for a recover session at Othership.

I’m a bit speechless. I feel in my element and I’m so grateful.

Quick Reminders Before You Start:

If you haven’t been following along, the easiest place is my Instagram. We’ve been posting daily highlight reels—too much to fit into a newsletter, but all the magic is there.

And the true main character of this story is my friend and videographer, Austin. He showed up ready to win, and he’s been crushing it. You can find him here.

I’ll have a ton more to report on when I get back home.

Until then, I’ll catch you on the Start Line,
— Matty
