The Power of Pattern Interrupts and Purposeful Pause
Be ready for any start line—insights for those who train, lead, and show up under pressure.

Hey Team!

I'm back in NYC and couldn’t be more excited. A couple weeks ago, I was here for literally 24 hours. This time, I’m here for a full week—packed with connection, wellness, and self-discovery.
This morning kicked off strong. Led a 4K run with Myo, followed by an Othership class that hit perfectly after the miles. The vibe was so damn high.
But what I’m most excited for sits just ahead: Michael Chernow’s men’s retreat this weekend. Four days rooted in breathwork. I’ve never incorporated breath into my wellness practice like this before. To be honest, I’m a bit anxious even thinking about it. For me, that’s typically a signal to lean in harder. Can’t wait to share the takeaways once this 7-day sprint wraps up.
This Week’s Shift
For those that know me, movement is a non-negotiable. Every single day. Strength and resistance 5-6 days a week. HIIT 1-2 days a week. Zone 2 runs for a couple hours every week. But over the past several months, I’ve been noticing a dull ache in my arms that I could no longer ignore.
After a physical therapy session with Myo, it turns out I’m dealing with brachialis and brachioradialis tendinopathy—basically, tendonitis from years of pushing hard. Years of stacking volume and intensity caught up. The fix? I need to back off the weights, let the tendons breathe, and give my body the space to recalibrate.
At times like this, I remind myself that this isn’t a setback. This is part of the forward. Sometimes, what feels like a pause is actually part of the next level. A chance to reset with intention, realign, and keep building.
Tested This Week
When’s the last time you deliberately stepped into something that made you uncomfortable? Stand-up comedy? Hosting a dinner party solo? In my case, dancing on a yoga mat surrounded by 30-60 year-old women in an intense flow class.
That was my reality this week. I stepped into one of Ange Hartman’s Meta classes at TurF—a class I’ve heard people rave about for years. And they weren’t wrong. Within minutes, the heat was up, the music was pounding, and the hour flew by.
But the real shift hit me about 50 minutes in. It felt like she cracked something open—something I may have been carrying, without fully realizing it. A release. An unexpected lightness. Sometimes, introducing a new modality—a pattern interrupt—unlocks what you didn’t even know was stuck. This was that for me. Exactly what I needed, and exactly when I needed it.
This is my invitation to you to consider how “doing hard things” could look a bit different than what we typically think.
From The Field
Lately, I’ve been leaning into the belief that our personal stories are already written. And when we align with our true purpose, the signs start showing up. But only if we’re conscious enough to see them.
I’ve had multiple conversations with fellow entrepreneurs lately about this. About momentum. And how, when you’re feeling it, you ride it. You harness that force. You don’t slow it down.
That’s exactly what I’ve been trying to do. And the signs keep stacking. Literally. The number 111 keeps appearing—license plates, room numbers, even my hotel here in NYC. Coincidence? Maybe. But maybe not. There’s plenty of data suggesting there’s more going on beneath the surface of life than we’re taught. Probably a conversation for another time.
Either way: if you’re feeling the signs, keep going. That’s the advice my peers keep giving me. And it’s working.
As always, grateful to have you here.
Let’s keep doing the hard, human work. Together.
Catch you on the Start Line,
— Matty
